Data Management Resources
Collecting data is just the beginning of understanding an organization’s story. We know data management is a crucial aspect of an organization’s success, but also know it can be time consuming and often intimidating to work with data. We work closely with our community partners to co-create systems that work for their unique needs; systems that are right-sized and scalable, so they can adapt as the organization grows and changes. We work with community organizations to do the following:
Database Selection and Management
The ability to select the best database for your organization, and then manage it, is becoming increasingly important to nonprofits of all sizes.
We have years of experience in managing databases for a wide range of nonprofit organizations and can help you fully utilize your existing database or choose the database that is best for your organization. We have expertise and experience with Apricot, ETO, Penelope, Access, Airtable, Sumac, Child Plus and more.
Choosing a Database – What to Consider
The right database can take your work to the next level. Rather than working off of spreadsheets, which are two dimensional (rows and columns), you can start to look at the depth of your data, showing connections between data points. In a database you can connect a child to a parent, and/or a full household. If the family moves, you only need to change the address in one place. Using a database helps you to more easily make the connections you need for reporting; monthly and annual counts become a breeze, and you can disaggregate (slice your data) to get deeper into your stories (for example, comparing single vs. two parent households, or watching a child’s ASQ scores over time). Internal and External Reporting
You know you are doing great work, but can you “prove” it? Increasingly, funders are asking for evidence that you are meeting your goals and milestones. Clear and concise reporting is important for maintaining funding, and demonstrating your work to upper management. It is also crucial in making programmatic decisions, effectively directing staff time, and communicating your activities to your various stakeholders (community members, partners, potential clients, funders and more). Let us help you use your data to tell your story to all of the different audiences who need to hear it.
Reporting System Development
Many organizations need more than quarterly or annual reports. Effective and impactful organizations check their progress to goals on a monthly, weekly or even daily basis. These programs need tools that will allow them to quickly and easily see the information that is important to their mission. We have a passion for developing tools for every layer of your organization, from the direct service staff who need to be able to easily review their caseload, to the program manager who wants to keep an eye on their targets, to the executive director who wants to quickly see a high-level overview.
